What Are The Different Therapies Used?

“Jin Shin Do” means “The Way of the Compassionate Spirit.”  Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure® uses gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points and verbal Body Focusing techniques to help release “armoring” or chronic tension, balance the “Qi” or energy, and improve vitality.  This clothes-on method helps relieve stress and trauma related problems.  A unique synthesis of a traditional Japanese acupressure technique, classic Chinese acu-theory, Taoist philosophy, Qigong (breathing and exercise techniques), Reichian segmental theory and principles of Ericksonian psychotherapy, Jin Shin Do® acupressure was originated by Iona Marsaa Teeguarden.

Acupressure is similar to Acupuncture but does not use needles.

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) involves a light, gentle touch to release restriction and tightness in the body.  In a CFT session, the brain cycle is evaluated at the beginning and end of the therapy session.  The brain cycle occurs as a result of the flow of cerebrospinal fluid within the brain and the nervous system.  As a result the brain naturally expands and contracts.  The brain cycle is the length of time it takes for one expansion and contraction.  The quality and rhythm of the brain cycle reflects the health of the craniosacral system.  The cerebrospinal fluid which flows around the brain, spine and in the connective tissue (fascia) of the body, nourishes and protects the brain and helps the body eliminate toxins.  When the Craniosacral system is open, the cerebrospinal fluid can flow unrestricted and help the brain and the body to perform optimally.  It is not uncommon to note that when the quality and length of the brain cycle increases, one’s health also improves as a result.

Accident, injury, surgery, trauma and a difficult birth are just some issues that can cause tightness and restriction in the body.  The goal in CFT is to help the body release the tightness and restrictions and help the body perform optimally.

Reiki is a gentle, balancing therapy.  Its benefits include an increased sense of well being, reduced pain and a feeling of calmness.

Medicinal Aromatherapy is the use of plant essences to support and create balance mentally, emotionally and physically.

Message Therapy includes Swedish, Deep or Therapeutic Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Lymphatic, Reciprocal and Subtle Body Techniques. Massage can be beneficial, relaxing, and useful in addressing pain, relieving stress, and reducing anxiety.

All therapies can be deeply relaxing and great for restoring body, mind, energy, spirit, and balance.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

This varies with each individual. A recent condition may require fewer sessions and long standing health issues will require more. Plan for 4 – 6 sessions during which time you should be able to notice the benefits.

Is There Any Condition For Which Craniosacral Fascial Therapy Should Not Be Used?

In certain situations Craniosacral Therapy would not be recommended.  These include conditions where a variation and/or slight increase in intracranial pressure would cause instability.  Acute aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage or other preexisting severe bleeding disorders are examples of conditions that could be affected by small intracranial pressure changes.
